Online Course description
Mindful Practices Through Gestural Drawing is a 6-week course that you move through at your own pace with feedback from me each week.
Weeks 1 and 2: You begin to work as often as possible to develop your observation skills and start with small objects to draw around your home, probably kitchen objects could be best. The technique allows uou to relax, draw lightly, capturing the object in your sketch pad with a light touch but filled with lines and fluidity. I will instruct you on this.
Weeks 3 and 4: I have you take this technique into the natural world, outdoors, and preferably where there are trees or plantings. If weather does not permit you to go outside then you can do this drawing from indoors and looking out a large window. Same technique and objective is to stay focused on what you see and not focused on your paper nor on the proprtion of what you draw on paper. This requires you to stay mindful of what you observe and not pass judgment on what it looks like on paper.
Weeks 5 and 6: At this time I will instruct you on observing in nature or in your home a more completed composition of several objects held together with the energy of lines that overlap and maybe intersect. This more developed composition will allow you to be more mindful of what you observe and become less critical of your drawing.
Online Course requirements
You need graphite soft lead pencils and you need a sketchbook not smaller than 9 x 11 and preferably a bit larger. But not too big that you cannot carry the sketchbook around with you. I prefer you NOT have an eraser .
