Online Course description
The main themes of Vicor Hugo's novel Les Misérables:
When the poor gets morally degraded, he becomes miserable. There is a point when the unfortunate becomes disgusting, odious and wild. When the unfortunate and the wild get together, they form what we call ‘Les Miserables’. The cities exactly like the forests have some hiding places where the most ferocious and scary creatures have their dwellings. In cities, that which is the most wild and unworldly has safe hiding places. There is a noble poor whose dwelling can be as poor as him. But there are places at the lowest level of the social structure which are not exactly graves but waiting room for the graveyard. The rich display their opulence at the entrance of their palaces but on the other extreme there are places which are stalked by death. In these places, the bodies cling to each other but their hearts remain apart.
